Bachana

Coke Studio season 4 has just been launched and it has already given us a talent in Bilal Khan who sung "To Kia Hua" in the first episode.
Now the reason to put this song ahead of "To Kia Hua" is just because this feels more natural more raw and the song still lingers on even after its over. Have a listen, and let me know what you think.

Delhi Belly - Bhaag D K Bose

The official promo of the much awaited Delhi Belly was out a week ago and we heard the Bhaag D K Bose song in it. The official soundtrack is out with a video and is sure to be a viral hit. The punchline has been a joke amongst a lot of young people in the past and these young kids have grown up so it will be like going in the past and remembering the good ol' times. Yes this one is surely gonna rock!!

Ragini MMS music

Last week the soundtracks for Rangini MMS got released. There are six songs of which four are remixes of old songs. These tracks are "Raat Akeli Hai" sung by the legendary Asha Bhonsle and to be honest it is more of the original old track than a remix. Then there is "Dum Maaro Dum" which I personally rate much higher than the re-done version of the same song for the movie Dum Maaro Dum. The essence of the song is captured in this version and only a extra beats are added and Anusha Mani has done a good job on the vocals. "Liya Liya Chura Liya" is basically Chura Liya Hai with a faster tempo and the vocals are by Anousha Manchandani who had done an equally good job, although the liya liya bit kinda gets irritating with the trumpets following. Then comes the track, by the Goldman Sacks of India Bappi Lahiri, "Chicken Fry" which is remixed but Bappi is back at the vocals (no one could have done it better really) and has possibly the lamest lyrics (except for the song teen thay bhai from the namesake movie) but Bappi makes it a banger and this one is to set on repeat!
We then have "Rangini" which probably gives us the essence of what the movie is going to be like, it comprises of a duet albeit by two males vocalists and is a mix rap by Angel Roman which probably isn't the best (AB Junior does a better job of it and that really does say things) and the hindi raag style singing by Saizan Hussein who makes up for it. Last but not least, there is "Itne Kareeb Aao", which is the romantic song sung in a sort of jazz style which in my opinion could have been done a bit better with the lyrics being very average (yup this coming from the person who talks about adding chicken fry to repeat) and the vocals being a bit off at a few points in the song.
I would get the album for the old songs/remixes and Chicken Fry is still playing in the background as I finish this.

Coke Studio Top Five

Let's get to the songs without much fluffing about, although have to add that it gets real hard sorting out songs and leaving out so many good songs. :)

Song No. 5
Bibi Sanam by Zeb and Haniya

A folk song sung in the Dari language.

Song No. 4
Garaj Baras by Ali Azmat and Rahat Fateh Ali Khan

Originally sung by Ali Azmat, Rahat brings in the traditional touch to this pop song used for a movie.

Song No. 3
Bari Barsi by JoSh

Rupinder Magon aka "Rup" and Qurram Hussain "Q" of JoSh bring an across the border love to this banger of a classical track.

Song No. 2
Dastaan-E-Ishq by Ali Zafar

Ali Zafar songs pop songs?? why?? :)

Song No. 1
Jal Pari by Atif Aslam

This was probably the best answer to the critics who rubbished him as a singer.

Coke Studio India

It is official now, Coke Studio India is being currently recorded and will be aired on MTV in June. It is reported that Leslie Lewis is going to be the mentor/technical director of the Indian edition and it would be interesting to see how he compares with Rohail Hyatt who has been successfully bring in great reviews for the Pakistani version in the last 3 seasons with number 4 to begin soon.
If you have not idea what Coke Studio is and have never seen/experienced it, you have been missing out on a show which is actually of, for and about music. It bring in the fusion of different styles of music mixing the classical with the modern, folk with the popular and provides a platform for artist widely known to the underground and upcoming ones. The show is about music and there are no judges, no voting and no auditions which makes it more appealing.
The indian line up has just been confirmed and are as follows:
Shaan, Shafqat Aamanat Ali, Shankar Mahadevan, Sunidhi Chauhan, KK, Hariharan, Kailash Kher, Colonial Cousins, Richa Sharma, Bombay Jayshree, along with folk legends of the likes of Khogen Das, Wadali Brothers, Rashid Khan, Sabri Brothers and upcoming talents like Advaitha, Shruthi Pathak, Chinna Ponnu, Harshdeep.
I hope we keep it more musical and less commercial and get to see a bit more folk songs and less movie songs.
My next entry is going to be my selection of the best five songs from Coke Studio.
